facing the dark corner

the old lady didn’t mind being
called crazy

or being laughed at for
spending her days
alone
in her small cottage
facing the dark corner
of the room and
talking to
her dead daughter

encouraging her to eat up
and grow up
and complimenting her on the good
looks she’d gained

“Oh, I bet the boys are all dropping
dead in your wake, hehe. Look
at those legs. So slim and long and
deadly. You’re a beauty
among beauties, my dear. Here, have another
one. Eat up to grow up. You’re gonna
have hundreds of strong, beautiful
children, hehe.”

The neighbors and the world
could keep calling her crazy, she
knew she was just very happy

She grabbed another grasshopper from
a jar and ripped its hind legs
and placed it
on the spider’s web

“Here’s another one, dear. Eat up
and grow up, hehe.”

  1. Oh jeez! That was disturbing. Awful for the grasshopper… reminds me of a (male) teacher I had for biology, who wanted us to dissect live grasshoppers.

      1. Good question B, maybe but IDK. I set my grasshopper free… and after that class was finished (and I got a low mark) I discontinued biology. Torturing and killing life to study it didn’t make sense to me. 🤷‍♀️

          1. Ah, that makes sense. Though all I meant was, I first thought of maybe being a marine biologist or something (kids can dream haha), but I stopped taking sciences as soon as I could, when I realized what was involved. I think theory is better when the practice is harming to others!! :))

  2. My step father would pull the legs off his grasshoppers and scold them for eating his yard. My mother would dance with fairies and now my husband goes to work every night in his dreams. This touched my heart.

  3. Hey would you mind stating which blog platform you’re using? I’m looking to start my own blog soon but I’m having a tough time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique. P.S Apologies for getting off-topic but I had to ask!
