how can you be such a monster? by Bogdan Dragos

Gobblers & Masticadores

he spent four weeks
away from his family
in a rented apartment
somewhere on
the outskirts
of town

he told them that
he needed this
he was a writer
needed to focus on his work
conducting his research
undistracted

his little girl would call
from time to time
asking daddy to hold his
phone against his forehead
while she made a kissing sound
on the other line

very wholesome
except he lied about
holding the phone
against his forehead

“How can you be
such a monster?”
asked the naked prostitute
sitting on the edge of his bed

“Shut up,” he said
tossed his phone on the desk
and unbuckled

  1. Some clever subtle messages going on here…

    asking daddy to hold his
    phone against his forehead
while she made a kissing sound
    on the other line

    was clever and delightful

When I came to the end it all fell into place. People can live two lives And sleep happily at at night.

A dark theme but sadly real in many instances. You did a good job presenting this side of life…..

    1. Thanks you!

It’s as you said, “sadly real in many instances.”

The darkness of the human heart is beautiful to see in fiction. But it’s very important to remain there. It’s just like going to the zoo. The savage animals are beautiful to look at, but you surely wouldn’t want to be in their enclosure, or for them to get out.

  2. You are the king of cruelty. It shines in this piece of writing. How conniving and deceitful can some people be. It’s really a question mark on human nature. Nothing human about it. Nice writing. 🙂

    1. Oh, definitely! In a perfect world, all evil stays in fantasy. To be looked at and used as a bad example…
But we don’t live in a perfect world, do we?
