empaths

these days a lot of
people call
themselves
empaths

They claim to be able
to feel what
other people
are feeling
and suffer with them

"I cheated on my boyfriend
with his brother," some
girl said,
“and being the empath
that I am
I started crying along
with him when he
found out. It's hard
being such
an empath."

And there was
the guy
who got into a bar
brawl and
knocked another guy's
teeth out
and held a hand to his
own mouth and made
pain noises

I guess he
was an empath too

If you have a
social media account
and don't describe yourself
as an empath
people will think you're some
kind of monster,
a psychopath, they'll compare
you with Hitler

Yeah, it's a good
reason not
to use social media

If you actually
needed another

        1. Oh, I’m fairly okay, thanks!
I just started doing what I never thought I’ll be doing… ever in my life (☉_☉ )
I started writing poems… in my language (Romanian). Will be sharing them soon.

Yeah, anyway, hope you’re doing really fine as well and having a wonderful day 🙂

          1. Thanks! At my end I can’t write one line in my language ( hindi ) ! Like i feel so bad, but whenever I try, it never turns out to be…. GOOD. So I am thinking better stick to English only…

            1. Well, that’s precisely how I felt about writing in my language :))
So the first thing I did to kinda get myself used to it was to translate some of my English poems into Romanian (good thing they’re not rhyming ones, else I’d be damned for real). 😀

  1. This reminds me of the social workers version of the Parable of the Good Samaritan in the bible. Goodness, poor soul, they must be so emotionally damaged!” they exclaim.

    Brilliant poem! 😀

  2. Woah… yeah! 😆 Well maybe it’s like saying “Hi I’m human…” when none of us really are that either… but also are… but especially upon reading your comment thread about language up there, and particularly in this timing (when I have just posted a post that somewhat deals with language, without first seeing this post and comment thread, but after seeing your like on my last post) I do believe that people in the same group (writing groups, whatever) tend to become a mutually “psychic” bunch… the coincidences (do I put that in quotation marks? :)) are always neat to see, and if I don’t believe in collective consciousness I become afraid, and think I’m alone, and crazy… which isn’t much fun, honestly… ;)) :'((

anyway. all this to say, great writing… :)) 👏

    1. Don’t worry about craziness and eccentricities and stuff like that. As long as you express it through writing you’re guaranteed to find out that you’re not alone.
And sometimes that’s all you need to keep you going :))

  3. OMG, that is too good! You are such the most brilliant observer of human behaviour. Someone described this ’empathic’ association almost to rape…not of the physical body, but of the emotional ‘body’. One’s being should never be intruded on without permission. I guess we’re both monsters😅

  4. Love this playful and identifiable poem. Years and years ago, I saw it in action when one lad knocked another down the stairs in the Palais de Dance (!), then
rushed after him, picked him up and joined him in his tears. Unless you had seen it happen, you wouldn’t have known who was actually hurt.

    1. Haha, I see.
This thing can also be observed among children at play. Sometimes the play gets a bit too rough and one gets hurt and start crying (or is about to), and to prevent that (and to avoid punishment) the one who dealt the hit starts crying as well and pretending to hurt :))

  5. That is true! Few people call themselves an empath yet not tinge of empathy is there in them and vice versa. Humans are difficult creatures to know. 🙂 Let’s be empathetic and not call ourselves one. Actions should speak louder than words. 🙂

  6. Haha! Empaths are the new psychopaths. I’ll simply stay clear of them just like I do of most people. A nice punch right where it hurts. I’m quite sure empaths will feel the pain. Maybe cry a bucket of tears or two. Great writing, Bogdan. 🙂

  7. Ooh, this is my favorite poem of yours. Actually, it’s the first one I’ve read, but I really like it. So I plan to read more as this was really awesome. As a retired mental health therapist, I can now say that I never much liked empaths that came to see me in my practice. I used to tell them to shut the fuck up! Now paranoid schizophrenics . . . there’s a type of client that was really fun!
